Professor Gheorghiță Mateuț becomes Professor Emeritus of the Faculty of Law

By Decision of the Senate of Babeș-Bolyai University no. 191/20.10.2025, it was decided, at the proposal of the Faculty of Law, to grant the honorary title of Professor Emeritus to Professor Gheorghiță Mateuț. The Professor Emeritus diploma was awarded to our distinguished colleague in a festive setting by the President of the Senate of Babeș-Bolyai University, Professor Florin Streteanu.
Born on April 20, 1960, Professor Gheorghiță Mateuț graduated from the Faculty of Law in Cluj in 1984 and has been a doctor of law from the same institution since 1995. First a prosecutor, and since 1991 a lawyer in the Arad Bar, he followed all the steps of his university career and, since 2001, he has been a full professor in the discipline of Criminal Procedural Law. He is a member of the International Association of Criminal Law, a renowned doctoral coordinator, with a rich publishing activity in the field of criminal procedure and criminal law. Professor Gheorghiță Mateuț has distinguished himself as a Professor who contributed to the education of entire generations of students and justice auditors, whom he inspired, as a dedicated researcher and, last but not least, as a defender par excellence. The professor’s most recent reference works saw the light of day in 2019 and 2024, at the Universul Juridic Publishing House: Criminal Procedure. General Part and Criminal Procedure. Special Part.
Professor Mateuț will continue his activity with the same energy within the Department of Public Law of the Faculty of Law in Cluj.
