Academic support for the Faculty of Law of the University of Burundi

The Faculty of Law in Cluj recently provided academic support for a doctoral student from the Faculty of Law of the University of Burundi.
The doctoral student Noël Ndikumasabo was in Cluj-Napoca in the second half of 2024 for a research internship funded by the Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF). During the internship, coordinated by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Radu Chiriță, the doctoral student benefited from access to the library resources and the private resources of the Faculty of Law professors in the field of European human rights law, thus facilitating the writing of his doctoral thesis.
On November 27, 2025, another faculty member of the Faculty of Law, Mr. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Cosmin Flavius Costaș, was part of the jury that evaluated the doctoral thesis entitled Le droit d’être jugé dans un délai raisonnable en droit burundais and awarded the title of Doctor of Law to Mr. Noël Ndikumasabo. This jury also included: Prof. Michel Masabo, University of Burundi (chairman); Prof. Calliste Nizana, University of Burundi (secretary); Prof. Egide Manirakiza, University of Burundi (member); Prof. Bernard Ntahiraja, University of Oslo (member); Prof. Pacifique Manirakiza, University of Ottawa (member). The jury was determined by decision no. 20/29.09.2025 of the Director of the Doctoral School of the University of Burundi.
Based in Bujumbura, the University of Burundi was founded in 1964, comprises eight faculties and five institutes and educates approximately 13,000 students. The premises for future collaboration between the two universities already exist, and the Faculty of Law in Cluj remains open to any future collaboration.
