With the unification of the “V. Babeş” and “Bolyai” Universities, in 1959, a single Faculty of Legal Sciences will operate within the new “Babeş-Bolyai” University, which will also lead to the unification of the holdings of the branch libraries of the two faculties of legal sciences, forming the Library of Legal Sciences, the current Law Library. These book holdings were later supplemented by funds from various departments, donations and purchases.

Donations come from various cultural institutions, such as the Romanian Academy, from teachers who have taught over time, as well as from Romanian and foreign legal specialists.

The department libraries, established since the beginning of the university, represented the cores of future faculty libraries. The library still preserves several works by Romanian jurists who went to study abroad in the 19th and 20th centuries, which they brought back for study to their colleagues in the country. There are also publications by faculty professors since its establishment, such as Romul Boilă, Alexandru Angelescu, Emil Hațieganu, etc.

The “Lucian Blaga” Central University Library has started a project to digitally recover the works of the first professors, and these can be studied on the B.C.U. website in the Library Resources/Course Bibliography/Professors section.

The library has the following publication funds: the general fund – includes books from the beginnings of the University to the current ones (around 19,000 book volumes); funds from the departments of Criminal Law (1377 book volumes and periodicals), State (1015 book volumes and periodicals), Civil (747 book volumes and periodicals) and Theory (1601 book volumes and periodicals); Documentary fund (7545 book volumes and periodicals); “D” fund (2249 book volumes and periodicals); general periodicals fund (175 Romanian and foreign journal titles with 1127 volumes), of which approximately 50 titles come from subscriptions from the country and abroad. Among the most important Romanian journals subscribed to are Dreptul, Revista română de drept privat, Pandectele române, Curierul judiciar, etc., and among the foreign ones Revue de droit pénal et de criminologie, La semaine jurique, Rivista di diritto civile etc.

The library also makes available to its users all the digital resources of the Central University Library “Lucian Blaga” and the HeinOnline database acquired by the Faculty of Law of the “Babeș-Bolyai” University.
